Evaluation of All Work
Unit One:
My client for Unit One- Dockyard Exhibition, was Sandra Delahoy and the criteria and needs that Sandra Delahoy presented to us was that the final artistic outcome should be related to the Historic Dockyard and also attracted a young audience, age range 13-19 years and encouraged our young audience to visit the Dockyard. I felt that these needs were achievable although it may be difficult to encourage the young audience to visit the Historic Dockyard, as the Historic Dockyard doesn’t have a reputation for being able to keep a young audience entertained and engaged.
The strengths of this Unit I believe included showing links to the Dockyard in a creative and unique way, being able to attract the audience using a variety of disciplines and resources for my outcome and also being able to keep the attention of the audience long enough for them to be able to try and read into my message.
I think the weaknesses of this Unit was mainly in holding the exhibition and not in the work as the space was far too big making the exhibition appear unfinished, there was lack of communication between the group resulting in tensions and upset and also the advertisement wasn’t very well organised meaning that a lot of the advertisement was handed out to late to have much affect.
Overall the feedback I got for my outcome and for the group exhibition was very positive. My client seemed happy with the work and the way it was presented and my comment book had a lot of positive feedback from visitors of the Dockyard saying that my work was well thought out, gave a good, strong and powerful message and that the outcome was also visually attractive. I also got some constructive criticism saying that my work was too busy for some members of the audience to focus. I appreciated all the audience feedback and client feedback and took all the comment onboard although overall I was happy with the results of the exhibition and so was my client.
30-Hour Exam:
My clients for my 30-hour exam were the examiners who required the artistic outcome of the exam to be able to relate to young people and also to contain the theme ‘Local Identity’; again the age range that the outcome will be directed at will be ages 13-19 years. I think this is an achievable requirement as ‘Local Identity’ can be interpreted in many ways and therefore there are a lot of routes that can be taken in the exam.
The strengths of this exam I feel was the outcome itself as I feel it was creative and unique and showed the message I was trying to portray accurately. I also think other strengths in this exam outcome include a wide range of disciplines that I used well to make my outcome visually attractive and I also think the variety of texture used makes my outcome more interesting.
I think my weaknesses in this exam are mostly sketchbook weaknesses such as lack of organisation in my work, not giving myself enough time to complete sketch book tasks and concentrating more on the artistic outcome rather than the sketchbook.
Unit 5 and 6:
My clients for unit 5 and 6 were Lindsey Strange, Claire Griffins and the Brook; the requirements my clients needed meeting were having a creative and unique outcome containing two disciplines and in keeping with the theme of ‘My Town’. The other requirement was that the outcome be attractive to the age group of 13-19 year olds.
The strengths of this outcome I feel are that my artistic outcome is creative and unique, uses several disciplines (textile, text, written work, design, found objects and installation), sends a clear message to my audience, can attract and hold an audiences attention, follows all the criteria and looks visually attractive due to all the textures and disciplines.
The weakness of this outcome I feel are mainly due to transport and how difficult it was to take the dress down to the exhibition without destroying it; unfortunately I still had to redo the bottom of my outcome due to damage on the way to the exhibition.
Overall the exhibition and the outcome had a lot of positive feedback from most of the audience and from all the clients. All the clients were very positive about my work and the feedback I received said that my outcome was very strong and bold and was a unique, creative and different way of portraying ‘My Town’.
Overall Evaluation
Overall I feel that my outcomes were all very strong ideas and I was really pleased to receive mainly positive feedback. I also think that comparing the exhibitions, which were similar in the way that both outcomes had to be aimed at a young audience of 13-19 year olds, you can clearly see the positive progression in not just the outcomes but also the way the group worked together on subjects such as advertisement and spacing and the way the group was mature enough towards the end to sort out disputes in a clear and sensible way.
